Congratulations with Labor Day!

Вітання з Днем праці!

Dear colleagues!

Congratulations with Labor Day!
The holiday began to be celebrated around the world in memory of the workers’ protests in Chicago, which took place on May 1, 1868. Then workers took to the streets, demanding an eight-hour day. Rallies and strikes clashed with police, who killed both protesters and law enforcement officers.
In 1890, Labor Day was first celebrated in Lviv, and in the eastern part of Ukraine, it first took place in 1900.
In the USSR, May Day has been a major public holiday for many years. On May 1, 1990, the leadership of the Soviet Union and the CPSU last ascended the rostrum of the Mausoleum for the last official May Day demonstration.
In 2017, the Verkhovna Rada voted to amend Article 73 of the Labor Code, renaming Workers’ Solidarity Day Labor Day. In our country, May 1 is an official day off.
May 1 symbolizes working unity and spring prosperity.
May this holiday give us inspiration, optimism and self-confidence, help us to comprehend the depth of life-affirming ideals of goodness and justice.
I wish you happiness, health, prosperity and well-being.

Regards,
President of the Assembly E. Romanenko
